FEDGHAF ELECTION - 2011

On Sunday, 16th October 2011, 11 out of the 14 Member Association of FEDGHAF responded to the call to vote to elect its PRESIDENT and the GENERAL SECRETARY for a 3 year term of office. The attendance was satisfactory.

Present were the Queen Mother of the Ghanaian Community in France Nanahemaa Adjoa Kuor and her assistant, Nanahemaa Emelia of which the latter was a member of the Electoral Commission. The Electoral Commission comprised the following:

Electoral Commissioner - Mr, Afrani Pepprah, Chief of Ghanaian Community, Seine and Marne

Deputy Electoral Commissioner – Assistant Queen Mother Emelia

Member - Mr, Oscar Adzomah, Representative, Ghana Embassy in France

Member – Reverend, Godwin  Benefo, Founder, Firm Founders Ministry Int.

The election which is long overdue has brought a solution to forging ahead with the project, the acquisition of the Ghanaian Community Centre in Aubervilliers, outskirts of Paris. This election symbolises continuity as far as the project is concerned. We are defending a project which is the blood of FEDGHAF. Without this project FEDGHAF should be qualified as one of the many attempted umbrella unions which woefully failed to make any impact. A pragmatic and tenacious approach to make FEDGHAF remain the only concrete umbrella association ever, is the aspiration of the just elected duo – the PRESIDENT, Mr Koffi Setodji and the GENERAL SECRETARY, Mr, Sammy Appiah.

The Master of Ceremony (M.C.) was the emancipated Reverend Godwin Benefo, founder of Firm Founders Ministry International. He was concise and appealed to sound reasoning with his clarity of expression.

What was important to recall was the fact that the Electoral Commission did not offer the least chance for ambiguity and incoherence to destabilize the election day. The members were vigilant as to apply breaks to any flirtations that pointed to the direction of vehement criticisms without alternative proposals. In spite of several attempts to put off the elections it did come on and the result was  unanimous.  In three weeks from now the elected duo will have to nominate the 7 remaining members of the Executive Council for approval by the Representative Council, the legislative body of FEDGHAF. It shall screen the nominees before approval for appointment. The Representative Council which comprises the Presidents of Member Associations shall give agility and profound scrutiny as well as place emphasis on performance.

The new Executive Council charged with the day to day functioning of the Federation shall appoint a Management Committee to superintend over the Community Centre. The Centre itself will undergo a major transformation. The renovation work which will take  2 weeks to complete will touch on the following: breaking the dividing wall between the 2 halls to accommodate about 650 seated spectators, the counter shall be incorporated into the kitchen and sound proof installations. A parking lot just behind the Community Centre which can contain 100 cars is under discussions by the elected duo, the President and the General Secretary.

This new administration needs men of concepts competence and connections to come out with fantastic ideas to bring victory home to FEDGHAF. These 3C's are going to be the hallmarks of the new Executive Council. In view of this, the nominations shall be based on availability, discipline, commitment  and altruism. This is the time to prove to ourselves and others what the Ghanaian Community is capable of achieving. Thank you.

Sammy Appiah- Gen. Sec.
